Old Thoughts on Proportional Representation
I'm still pondering my preferences on the electoral reform referendum. As a reference, here is my old first year poli sci paper, in favour of FPTP over most forms of PR (which includes, to some extent, BC-STV). The context is the Canadian federal government, and I was aiming mostly at mixed FPTP-list systems, so it doesn't quite apply, but it's something to read over. Note that I am not going specifically against the referendum at this time precisely because of BC's rather unique political climate.
And oh, this document is not distributed under the Creative Commons licence. It is fully copyrighted by Kelvin Chan (myself) and all rights are reserved. This is so that nobody else can try to pass this on as his own first year poli sci paper, and I'll sue the sorry ass of anyone who tries.
