Irrational Fear
It gave EastSouthWestNorth “the creeps.” Simon World calls it downright “terrifying.” What can this horrific monster be?
“It” is an English editorial from Ming Pao.
I agree that whoever that wrote the editorial was probably a bit hyper and pumped, likely playing some patriotic tune on the stereo and singing along as he clattered away on his keyboard. But is it really that scary? What is the point of the editorial? The point is to tell the central government to stop using patriotism as a attack against those who don't always agree with Beijing. The point is that the people of Hong Kong are patriotic and intelligent, and that we don't need to be brainwashed into one monotonous voice to love our country. The point is that letting the people of Hong Kong run their own affairs is not going to break our links with the mainland.
Indeed, it's the type of editorial that I would probably write.
I hope these two fine bloggers are just using some sort of subtle sarcasm that I'm not getting here, but usually they're a bit better with the wit than this. And if you'll excuse me, I'll be playing some patriotic music.
