Shot Down
Evidently, if an armed intercontinental ballistic missile was to ever be launched at Canada (or somewhere close enough to the border for Canada to be saturated in fallout), the idea is to either let it hit us or hope that the United States would be caring enough to shoot it down for us. But then it's nothing unexpected from a Liberal minority government. What's really depressing, though, was where the Tories stood on all this:
When even the staunchly pro-U.S. and military-friendly Conservatives began waffling over missile defence a few months ago, the Liberal government was left isolated.
At least the NDP had some (seriously misguided) principles when they were ranting about the so-called “weaponization of space.” (Evidently ground-based missiles weaponize space, but only American ones, 'cuz nobody's blaming the bad guys for launching missiles over the 100km altitude mark.)
I'm not saying that the literally half-assed systems being tested right now are impressing me, but with missiles and nukes increasingly accessible to just about any nutjob, I would much rather bet my safety on something a bit more tangible than the restraint of men who have no restraint by definition.
