Stop Taking Our Women!

(Note: you're not really gonna understand 100% of this entry unless you're a Hong Kong immigrant in Vancouver. Of course, that category includes myself.)
Vancouver continues its Chinese beauty pageantry domination:

Miss Chinese International

Miss Hong Kong

The latest victory raises some questions:

  1. Based on looks alone, I don't see how some of these ladies could have won. Specifically, I'm talking about Virginia, Vivian, Shirley, and Leanne. I don't think they're unattractive; it's just that they don't strike me as particularly stunning. And since this is a beauty pageant, I demand stunning.
Note: some of the linked photos of Anne, Sonija, Bernice, and Linda might not be that good, but just trust me that they're at a different level.

  2. Whatever happened to that stream of Vancouver university students from HK that went back to compete in MHK (see the 1997—2000 period)? Why are the MHKs now so horrible?

  3. Has Fairchild been bribing TVB? TVB is, after all, cash-strapped, and it wouldn't surprise me if Fairchild was rolling in moolah. Damn Fairchild and its insane prices.

  4. Where the heck are all these hot Chinese university students hiding? Why have I never seen anyone worthy of even trying out for a pageant after four years in UBC?

  5. Have all these questions make me look chauvinistic and shallow (yet)?

My turn..

1. Ditto.. and the "mugshots" on provided by TVB do them no favour. Though some of the unofficial websites do show better photos. I do have to admit that they do look better in certain angles/perspective.

4. We now know that they do not appear where engineering, economics and math students roam. Try Buchanan next time..

5. U tell me..
